Digital wellbeing
main points
my main problems with digital wellbeing:
-
internet anxiety and paranoid tendencies. i hate having too many connected sites and accounts unless necessary.
- and on the other hand, separating identities too much brings me feeling of being lost. and anxious as well.
- hyperfixation on webbuilding. literally. more detailed in [webbuilding and hyperfixation] section.
- unnecessary dependences.
- overstimulation with unnecessary details, clutter, animations, scripts
personal journey to digital wellbeing
from RECENT to OLDEST
- what's next?
- separating HTML and MD platforms. this is why i have website and bearblog. i want to have options: no coding & writing OR publishing completed texts that need their styling in HTML.
- starting webbuilding. code back-ups synchronized with Mega. different sites for different purposes.
- deleted telegram. no longer i feel horrible anxiety about my data.
- switching to Notally for notes and Easy Diary for diary. using Mega for back-ups. for more details see [notes apps] section!
- deleting twitter. too slow and cluttered. switched to bluesky (logging out if not using account for more than a week). restricting main page only for mutuals feed or custom feed (with animals). mastodon, also logging out and not following too many stuff.
- using web-based "apps" more often, instead of applications. i hate installing 1000 separate apps for every account or website. for example discord (fuck you discord!!!) and reddit (only front-ends)
- switching to brace.to for bookmarks. no local history in browser. no local bookmarks except for sites i use often (webbuilding and gaming mostly). separating two different types of "work" in two browsers or containers. closing all tabs when existing the window.
- deleting uTube account and switching to NewPipe. it way more quick and not cluttered. local watch history is on. UI is clean and simple. no suggestions or Ggle tracking. no "shorts", no community posts, only local playlists. downloading some videos and music. frequent back-ups. unfollowing channels if they are not interesting anymore: i have favorite videos in watch history or playlists anyway.
webbuilding and hyperfixating
i will bite everyone who says hyperfixation is a superpower. it's stressful. it's forced. i hate it. if you're not talking about your own experience as a person with ADHD, i don't want to hear anything positive about hyperfixations.
i have this hyperfixation for more than a year already, which is the longest hyperfixation i ever had. sometimes i code for 9 hours straight without any breaks. i forget to eat, sleep, drink, go to the bathroom. i'm sick to the point of avoiding to use the word webdev, because it has negative associations.
my steps for reducing intensity of negative aspects of hyperfixation
- charge the laptop, then plug laptop out. this way i have physical barrier for limiting screen time. run out of battery? close laptop. it's time to make a pause. even though my laptop is a coolest boy who can work for at least 4-5 hours in low-consumption mode (which is when i code), i still think it's better than unlimited time.
- code only from laptop, not from phone! (i'm writing it from phone btw)
-
...separate art-coding and instrument-coding, as i call it.
- art coding is for "pretty" pages. they have their own folders, their own CSS, and are used for certain purpose: being an art itself. the main focus is on how it looks.
- instrument coding is a containers for creating. their main purpose is containing (wow!) stuff. the main focus is on what's inside.
-
build a good structure for website and webpages. most of the time i need instrument-code. no decorative details before solid structure,
no point in using large too cluttered code. i need to be able to quickly focus when i create pages after i built the main structure.
- my pages should be accessible from mobile period. i am regular mobile user due to many things, and i check my own pages myself very often, especially if they are for my own notes. this is why i can't use unreadable fonts, even if they are pretty. atkinson rules!!!
- if making from scratch, then draw layouts first. yes, draw on paper. with important notes about functions, responsiveness, semantics. not in diary, but only in separate notebook, because i don't want to be trapped in hyperfixation every time i open diary to write about my day.
- if writing text blocks, don't write them in the code editor. write texts in MD notes or plain text, then use converters.
- "hide" programming-related bookmarks in their own folder. main tab with bookmarks should be free from these traps.
- ONLY HTML, CSS AND JS, no back-end or other complex themes. it's a trap! as well as linux, git and similar!
useful tools for healthy webbuilding
- MDtoHTML. converter, because i don't want to write down all tags manually every time!!!
- Notepad++. I HATE VS STUDIO!!! I HATE GIT!!! I HATE SITE GENERATORS!!! I HATE COMPLEX SLOW PROGRAMS!!! AAAAHH!
- Markor. for writing in phone, but in MD
- HTML and CSS formatters. because i want to read my code, not a mess
- randoma11y. perfect and accessible color schemes generator
- kalechips layouts. perfect and accessible
- Komments. for small separate anonymous guestbooks (10!)
- yay.boo. for small separate anonymous sites (10!)
- my own webbuilding bookmarks

notes apps experience
i will write "reviews" for note apps later, check my resources page for recommendations for now.
i have many problems with noting stuff. this is what my AuDHD and anxiety need:
- structure. plus for folders and tags. basic markdown is good, though it's not necessity, because can use CAPS for showing important parts and "__" lines for separation.
- quick UI. i can't stress this enough. even few more seconds of loading make me furious and irritated. my thoughts are too quick, i can't stop! the less heavy scripts, the better.
- reduced animations. i honestly hate animations, most of them. not only in UI, but overall, especially flickering or quickly changing gifs. i'm a blinkies hater.
- some sort of stimulation, because my ADHD part needs it. most suitable and not overwhelming for me: different colors.
